She boosted herself up using the bed as a support and encouraged him on by opening her mouth on his jaw to rasp her teeth on his stubble. She wasn’t afraid of him. She wanted to provoke him. To unleash the truth of his darkness that he tried so hard to hide. But before her tongue could meet his skin, he grabbed her face and urged her away.

He scowled, aiming his hostility toward her mouth. “You’re my plaything now. My house means my rules.”

Shoving her jacket and her shirt down her arms, he twisted her elbows to yank the apparel off and cast it aside. Unsatisfied with what he’d revealed, he ripped the fabric strip connecting her bra cups to expose her breasts.

He bent his knees to collect up her half-naked body and closed his mouth on one breast while perching her on the frame of his bed. Hooking her feet on the plank that supported the mattress, she opened her legs around him to arch herself into his imploring mouth. He sucked and licked one breast, and took the other in his palm to fondle it. Then, sucking his mouth free of her bosom for long enough to lick his fingertips, he swirled and circled her nipples between them, alternating his fingers and his mouth, until the cramp in her belly made her hiss.

Massaging her nipples with the pads of his thumbs, he kissed the corner of her mouth. “Oh, she’s pretty,” he said with perverse pleasure. “Knows just what that hot body can get her.”

Her constricted lungs barely allowed words to seep from the threshold of her mouth. “There’s only one thing I want,” she ground the words out through her gritted teeth.

Zara combed her fingers into his hair as he moved south to kiss her chest again. When he snagged her nipple in his teeth, she coiled her digits tight against his scalp.

Pulling the taut peak in his mouth with him as he retreated, he only released it when it would come no further. “You think you’ll find it here?” he asked.

Sliding her hands through his tresses, to his jaw and up to his face, she compelled his head up, away from its task, so that she could look him in the eye. “I already have,” she said and wrapped her legs around him.

As her ankles locked, he reached around to grab them and wrench them apart. Using his hold on her limbs, he yanked her forward, forcing her to stand. One of his strong hands drove itself beneath her waistband and sent her skirt fluttering to the floor, before he stepped back to get a better view. Left in only her panties and stockings, she was fired up by being on show for him, and from the reaction in his jeans, she’d say he liked what he saw.

“She’s naughty,” he muttered as though to himself. “Do you like dressing dirty?” With one arm, he lunged forward to capture her. He yanked her body onto his so tight that she struggled to breathe. But she loved the way he held her, how his strength could overpower her. Despite what he was capable of, he could never use that strength or his lethal skills against her. Having immunity from him was a thrill in itself. “You dress to drive men wild?”

“I dress for me,” she said, trying to push away from his embrace simply because she knew she couldn’t.

Using his mass, he crushed her against the end of the bed. She was lost in the intensity of his eyes, but yelped when he snatched her panties and ripped them away from her fizzing skin before he let his other arm enclose around her.

When he bowed nearer, she tipped her head back to avoid his kiss, because riling him enlivened her. But he opened his mouth and sucked the neck she’d exposed for him.

The bite of power in that kiss made her yelp. “Oh, God…”

ExplicitInstruction

Explicit Instruction started with Rushe. I suppose for anyone who has read it that’s no surprise!
The scene in my head that I first saw him in didn’t make it into the book, and no, it wasn’t a sexy scene. Seeing him in the way I did allowed me to define who he was and what he stood for. The picture of him began to form, the blurred edges sharpened until he was in focus.
Then there was Flick. Putting two opposite people together is always a great way to ensure entertainment, variety, conflict, all of the things that we love to see in our romantic suspense novels.
Each of them find something in the other. A quality that they crave. Though neither of them would have realised it before they saw it. Rushe might have done everything he could to rebel against his feelings for Flick but that speaks as much to his own insecurities as it does to his desire to protect her.
Yes, odd isn’t it? But Rushe does have insecurities about who he is and about his relationship with Flick.

“‘You’re a princess, I mean you’re a goddess, and I’m not… it’s like beauty and the beast.’”
–Rushe, Explicit Instruction

He knows what she is, or rather what she could have, and doesn’t understand why she would want anything to do with him.

“‘Why would you want to get mixed up with a guy like me?’ he asked.”
–Rushe, Explicit Instruction

His own depth of feeling is such a surprise to him. Never having had love in his life, he really didn’t think he was capable. So when he comes to terms with that it seems to him that the impossible is possible.

“‘I love you, Flick,’ he breathed, though she wasn’t sure he said it to her. ‘I didn’t know I could… f*ck…’”
–Rushe, Explicit Instruction

But while Flick is Rushe’s weakness, he is her strength.

“Flick had found her sass in defiance of this adversity, because she knew Rushe would expect nothing less of his woman.”

They may come from very different places but fundamentally, they are the same, they make each other better. It is something which we should all strive to do for each other.

Good luck on your adventures,

xSx

summer

I’ve been at the computer for almost fourteen hours now, the room is starting to ripple, and I haven’t eaten since… yesterday. Needless to say I’ll keep this brief.
Explicit Instruction stormed through the charts at Amazon.ca I don’t think there are words for my surprise. It’s a funny little cloud to be sitting on. I know the position won’t hold forever, so although it’s amazing I’m already preparing for the crash. Weird, isn’t it? Writing isn’t instant. I can’t just release a new book tomorrow. But as flattered and humbled as I am it’s like… it doesn’t feel real. I thought actually charting anywhere was the equivalent to winning an Oscar, you know, completely out of the realm of possibility for anyone mortal.
I’ve been a writer all of my life. But it’s different now. In these last few months, since I started to publish the beast has taken on a new form. It’s a form I like. It’s utterly exhausting and exhilarating, and for the first time today I started to realise that this is real. People have actually read my work, some people like it, some people don’t, but it’s out there now. There’s no taking it back… not that I would if I could. But it’s just little me, sitting behind my computer, writing the worlds that exist in my mind.
I wish I could reach more people, and I wish more people could reach me. There have been times I’ve been exhausted through to my bones, and times I’ve been so happy I’ve wanted to jump and scream.
I don’t know what this is. I don’t know what I’ve started. But I do know I’m not going anywhere.
People I’ve thought would be happy for me, ignore me. People who I thought would be disappointed, are proud. But still, it’s just little me, behind my computer screen, tapping away.
I do this for me. I do it because I would be doing it anyway, whether I published or not. But it’s just me, all alone, sharing my secret with you.
I’m about to digress into my existential mutterings so I’ll stop there. I suppose what I want to say is, thank you for having faith, for joining me on this journey. Sorry, if I disappoint you, if I fail to live up to the faith you’ve put in me, and… please, I want to ask you to come with me, to stay with me, I can’t do this alone. I am us, I am we, and without we and us, there is no I…
See, I told you, I think I’m tripping out! Here’s to tomorrow, and may there be many more to come.

Good luck on your adventures,

xSx

Manic. Manic.
I woke up to do with a list of things to do. I did those. Did some writing, then had task after task interrupting. Anyway, I’m still bashing away at the keyboard but I wanted to let you know I’ve set up a poll. Check it out on Facebook or on my website.
I promise you that every vote will count. So please make sure you make a choice… though I don’t envy you!

Good luck on your adventures,

Explicit Mistake1

Series’ are all the rage.
When I first published I had an idea of what I would publish and when. I had several books completed and so envisaged preparing and releasing each of them as I went along. What I hadn’t factored in was that readers would care about my work.
I don’t sell very many books, I know that the world of indie publishing often leaves many authors languishing in obscurity because of the sheer volume of available books if nothing else. I always wrote the kind of books that I would want to read, I write as a reader.
Mistake Me Not drew varying feedback but there was always going to be a book two. I’d written it before I published the first. Explicit Instruction, I have to be honest, is my favourite. I relished writing every single word, and though my confidence in how it would be received flagged, I toned it down in the editing process and I’m proud of the end result – even if there are those out there who are not.
But I hadn’t thought anyone would want another Explicit novel. I’d written an outline for a second novel but that’s not unusual for me. Sometimes I write chapters and chapters after I’ve completed a novel because I’m not yet ready to give up the characters, and I’m interested in how they develop, in where they go. I hadn’t thought anyone else would care!
So how to decide? I have to admit that since I realised people were interested in further Rushe and Flick novels my mind has been jumping with ideas. I couldn’t sleep last night because of them. I actually got up in the middle of the night and started making notes.
So what’s the problem? Well the problem is that I promised this MMN sequel and I am doing it, I will get it out this year, but I don’t imagine there are many people anticipating it.
Both novels have been enjoyed by people who have read them, not by everyone who read them, but you’ll never please everyone. I suppose my dilemma comes from the fact that there isn’t a huge audience. I would be happy to write for the dozen or so folks who have expressed interest in a sequel but chances are they’ll have forgotten about it by the time I get it out.
The only thing to do is to keep writing. I’ll get the MMN sequel out, then see if the audience for more Explicit novels has grown. The nature of the characters mean that more Explicit novels would continue to be graphic. Rushe isn’t going to suddenly become a flurry bunny, and Flick’s confidence would skyrocket knowing she had Rushe at her back. The language and imagery will continue to offend some people, but I would have to stay true to the style of work that the original Explicit book follows.
I’d like to write more but it’s a big decision to make. My other novels are softer, safer, and if my readers expect that then I’ll have to deliver. But – and this is a big but – if it turns out that my readers actually prefer my raunchier work then way-hey! Let’s get to it!
I can’t put Explicit Instruction in front of too many people because it’s just not suitable for all. But without readers there is no point in a sequel.
Grr! See how frustrating it is to be in my head! Anyway, I’m procrastiwriting, I should be writing, and I’m not. My head is bouncing. It’s at times like these I wish I had an editor to help direct my creativity. I’ll write what people want, for the largest audience. But how do I know what that is?

Good luck on your adventures,

xSx

8632392-marketing-buzz-and-building-the-hype-as-concept

Buzz, buzz, buzz! No, a bumblebee hasn’t infected your computer I’m doing what I’m supposed to… aren’t I? What is hype anyway? I mean really, how can anyone manufacture it? I’m a writer, I’m not in marketing. If I was it would be a lot less “logos” and far more “epics”. I need a hundred thousand words to commence, elaborate, and conclude my point – it’s what I do! Don’t think I’d last long in marketing, do you?
So here it is. I have tried my best to create some kind of online presence. My work speaks for itself and if people want to read it, which I hope they do, then they’ll always know where it is. I’ve made its location clear, and I’m always open to communication – to communicate click on the word and seek the contact form.
So I’m going to put my money where my mouth is and let my work speak for itself. Ahh! I’ll give you the final description:

Stranded and searching for a phone, Flick inadvertently walks into danger, and finds herself living in a nightmare. But an unexpected reprieve comes in the form of a stranger, a looming silhouette more terrifying than the evil that captured her. From him she learns that danger has an alias, Rushe. He is abrupt, crude, domineering…and her only hope for survival.
With freedom a distant memory, Flick is reluctantly drawn into the criminal plot. As she descends further, her entanglement with Rushe becomes deeper. The adventure she started by accident threatens them; but Flick knows it’s not only her life she is battling for, it’s her heart as well.

I was going to post another sneaky snippet… an extended sneaky snippet! But I don’t want to give the game away… actually I couldn’t decide what to post. If you want another sneaky snippet let me know! Go to the website and fill in the contact form!
Explicit Instruction, available to buy as an e-book from Thursday June 26… providing Amazon play nice 😀

Good luck on your adventures,
